Why Is Little Debbie Christmas Tree Cake Ice Cream So Hard to Find?

What is it about Little Debbie Christmas Tree Cakes that makes them so irresistible? Is it the tender pound cake layers, the creamy filling, the festive decorations, or the white icing that blankets it like snow? Combine it with vanilla ice cream and, well, then it's officially cake and ice cream, and resistance is futile.

Christmas Tree Cake Ice Cream, a collaboration between Hudsonville Ice Cream and Little Debbie, debuted exclusively in Walmart stores during the 2021 holiday season. The popular frozen treat, which features pound cake chunks and swirls of red icing and green sugar crystals in a vanilla base, returned to Walmart shelves in November 2022—but there's a catch: Like the original Christmas Tree Cakes, which were introduced in 1985, the ice cream is seasonal. That means once it's sold out, it's gone.

If you're on the hunt for a pint, your best bet is to check your local Walmart's inventory online before heading out the door. It's super easy to do. Visit the Christmas Tree Cake Ice Cream product page on Walmart's website, then hit the button that says "Check availability nearby" and enter your zip code.

When we checked the inventory of the Walmart stores near Country Living's offices, four out of eight locations had the flavor in stock. Whether it's available near you will depend entirely on your location.

If you find that Christmas Tree Cake Ice Cream is already sold out where you live, you have two courses of action:

One, try the other Little Debbie ice cream flavors made by Hudsonville. Thanks to the success of Christmas Tree Cake Ice Cream in 2021, you can now find ice cream versions of Little Debbie Oatmeal Creme Pies, Cosmic Brownies, Zebra Cakes, Honey Buns, Strawberry Shortcake Rolls, Swiss Rolls, and Nutty Bars at Walmart.

Two, as long as you can find a box of the original Christmas Tree Cakes, you can try your hand at a homemade version of the ice cream. We've got to say, The Quicker Kitchen's no-churn recipe looks fabulous and would perfectly complement a holiday dessert table.
