Why Las Ventanas al Paraíso Is Still the Place to Stay in Cabo, 25 Years After Opening

Las Ventanas al Paraíso, A Rosewood Resort ReviewBarbara Kraft

A quarter of a century into its tenure, there’s still no better place to stay in Cabo than right here at Las Ventanas al Paraíso. The Rosewood property, one of Esquire's Hall of Fame Hotels, wasn't the first luxury lodging offered in Los Cabos, Mexico but for many, it may as well be the last. Everyone milling about the pool, ducking in and out of the shops, or finishing up at the ceviche bar is a return guest.

It's not hard to see why. Rooms are spacious and warmly decorated, the service is unbeatable, and late nights at the on-site speakeasy, La Botica—hit the right button on the typewriter and the doors will swing open for you, too, revealing a revelrous Cuban band and maybe even a magician—absolutely delight. Of course there is also the ocean-facing infinity pool (plus seven others (!) waiting for you to come take a dip), the grassy slope littered with plush loungers (do yourself a favor and book a foot massage, right there), and Arbol, one of the best restaurants in town, on the property. By my third morning I even found myself looking forward to spying the new, insanely intricate designs the staff would carve into the sand overnight.

But what this hotel offers, and why everyone so enthusiastically comes back, is something else: an escape to Mexico. Las Ventanas is a place that embraces its host country’s style, trappings, and natural beauty so completely you feel enveloped by every ribbon of the local charm from arrival to check-out.
