Why Lady Gaga Isn’t at the 2021 Grammys

Lady Gaga has two Grammy nominations tonight, but she won’t be making an appearance at the 2021 ceremony.

The multi-hyphenate performer is currently shooting her new film, House of Gucci, alongside Adam Driver in Rome. She tweeted just a few hours before the ceremony started, “Watching the Grammy’s from Italy! So honored just to be nominated! Love you little monsters! Love you music, love you art, love you world. God bless health and happiness to all the nominees!”

Gaga is nominated for Pop Vocal Album for Chromatica and just won the Grammy for Pop Duo/Group Performance for “Rain on Me” with Ariana Grande. The category was only established in 2012, yet this is the first time an all-female group won the award. When they were announced the winners, Grande tweeted, “MOTHER MONSTER WAKE UP @ladygaga !!!!!!!!??” She added, “eternally, deeply grateful for u, for this experience, to have been a part of this song and this celebration of healing and recovery, to be able to dance in the rain with u, to call u my dear friend & to now share this. beyond thankful. congratulations queen, ti voglio bene !”

Paparazzi caught Gaga and Driver on set in Milan on Saturday, March 13, the day before the Grammy awards took place in Los Angeles.

House of Gucci is based on the book House of Gucci: A Sensational Story of Murder, Madness, Glamour, and Greed by Sara G. Forden. It chronicles Maurizio Gucci’s (Driver) 1995 murder as ordered by his ex-wife Patrizia Reggiani Martinelli (Gaga). In 1998, Reggiani was sentenced to 29 years in prison.

On March 10, Gaga posted an Instagram with Driver from set, captioned, “Signore e Signora Gucci #HouseOfGucci.”

House of Gucci is directed by Ridley Scott and slated to hit theaters Nov. 24.
