This Is Why Kate Middleton and Prince William Want to Take Prince George to School Themselves

Once again, Kate Middleton and Prince William are proving to be a modernizing force within the British royal family. Come this fall, the royal couple will reportedly be taking their son, Prince George, to school themselves most of the time. The reason for this apparently lies in the fact that the Duchess of Cambridge wants her children to have a childhood like her own, with this being an important and normal aspect of that. “Kate wants George—and later Charlotte—to have the same school experience that she did as a child,” a source says.
The royal parents had already made headlines by choosing a more relaxed school than previously expected for their son to attend, post-London move. Currently, Prince George attends a nursery school near the couple’s Norfolk residence, Anmer Hall.
Word of this expected routine comes in the midst of additional examples of the couple’s forward-thinking attitude. Earlier this week, a magazine shared Prince William’s parenting philosophy which includes an emphasis on their children’s emotions. “Catherine and I are clear that we want both George and Charlotte to grow up feeling able to talk about their emotions and feelings,” Prince William said in CALMzine. He continued on to say, “Over the past year we have visited a number of schools together where we have been amazed listening to children talk about some quite difficult subjects in a really clear and emotionally articulate way—something most adults would struggle with.” Additionally, this week Prince William appeared in a video alongside Lady Gaga to discuss mental health. These moves, along with Prince Harry’s personal disclosure about his own past mental health struggles, are part of efforts to promote the trio’s ongoing campaign Heads Together.
