Why Jamie Lee Curtis Called Out the Oscars on Live TV

In 2023, Jamie Lee Curtis won an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress for her performance in Everything Everywhere All at Once. Fast-forward to today, and the actress has called out the awards show on live TV. So, what happened?

Curtis appeared on the Today show on Tuesday, Jan. 16, to promote her new children's book Just One More Sleep.

At one point during her interview with Hoda Kotb, Curtis discussed how she recently presented a Golden Globe to her friend, Jodie Foster. (Foster won Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role in a Motion Picture for The Mauritanian.) This prompted Kotb to ask if Curtis would be a presenter at the 96th Oscars on March 10.

"Oscar people, am I presenting?" Curtis said directly to the camera. "It's usually a tradition that last year's winner presents this year. But they haven't called yet, Would you please call? I'd like to get a dress I would like to arrange things."

She also joked that presenting at the Oscars is "the best gig for me" because the awards show starts at 5 p.m. Pacific time, and she likes to go to bed early.

In addition to chatting about her latest project—and publicly calling out the Oscars—Curtis reflected on turning 65 this past November.

"I'm much less hard on myself, I'm very much in acceptance of what I look like, and I own what I think and feel," she told Kotb. "And that, to me, is what maturity is."

She added: "I say what I mean, I mean what I say, I try not to say it mean. And that is a way, then, to grow into my old age."

Hopefully, the Oscars call Curtis soon if they want her to present. But even if they don't, the actress seems plenty busy (and fulfilled) with other projects currently on her plate.
