Why Jack Brooksbank Wore Something Very Different on His Wedding Day from Prince Harry
The grooms at royal weddings often wear military uniforms. For example, back in May, Prince Harry wore the frockcoat uniform of the Blues and Royals, and in 2011, Prince William chose the vibrant red Irish Guards Mounted Officer’s uniform for his wedding to Kate Middleton.
But today, Jack Brooksbank isn't wearing a uniform at his wedding to Princess Eugenie. Instead, he's chosen to wear the traditional British morning coat.
"Morning dress is formal attire for men at a daytime event. Unless Jack had a military uniform to wear, he would otherwise be expected in day time to wear traditional morning dress," etiquette expert Myka Meier tells Town & Country.
Brookbank's wedding attire was first hinted at on his wedding invitation. The dress code for the event required that women wear day dresses and hats, and that men wear morning coats, indicating that the groom likely would as well.
"A morning suit consists of a morning coat, waistcoat, and formal trousers. It is more commonly seen at formal daytime events in the UK than in the US," Meier says. "We often see gentleman wearing a morning suit at weddings in the UK and formal social events such as Royal Ascot."
For example, we saw both Harry and William wear a morning coat at Pippa Middleton's wedding back in 2017.
For those Americans unfamiliar with all the various pieces that make up a morning coat Meier broke it down for us:
"A morning coat should be tailored and fit the shape of the body, cinching at the waist and flowing out in the back."
"A morning suit is worn in grey or black and often as a black jacket paired with a striped trouser in grey and black."
"The waistcoat (or vest) can be worn in a color over a white button down shirt and paired with a tie."
"For shoes to match a morning suit, gentleman should opt for a polished black pair."
