On the winding road from Naples to the Amalfi Coast, I thought to myself “never has nausea been more worth it.” Last summer was my first time visiting the oh-so-popular Italian coastline and it’s somehow more beautiful in real life than on Instagram. The problem is, everyone knows it, so the towns are overrun. I spent a few nights in Sorrento, Amalfi, and Ravello, and I learned the secret to enjoying the region during peak season: the Hotel Miramalfi.

The property boasts panoramic views of the Tyrrhenian Sea, the town of Amalfi and the dramatic hills that surround it. This design is a testament to founder Francesco Mansi’s vision when he opened the hotel in 1956. He chose a raw cliff, building a series of levels rising from the sea stopping only when he could exclaim, “from here you can see Amalfi!”

While you’ll have to pay a premium for the larger suites facing the seaside village, Mansi made sure that every guest got several chances to take in the incredible scenery from across the water. Upon arrival via the complimentary shuttle from the harbor, you enter an open parking lot where you’ll instantly catch the breathtaking views. Then, you’re greeted with a welcome drink by the lobby entrance mirroring the coast.

Of course, it doesn’t stop there. When you get up the next day, grab a leisurely breakfast—included with every stay—at the restaurant terrace. No matter where you sit, you’ll be able to savor the stunning Amalfi shores. After eating, explore the town, and when you’re back, head to the ground floor. There, you’ll find Miramalfi’s saltwater pool and cliffs leading straight into the sea. Again, it’s an easy way to avoid crowds at the beaches and opt for a relaxing, secluded oasis (picture-perfect moments and pin-striped floaties included).

As mesmerizing as it is to look out to Amalfi, the hotel’s landscaping elevates the coastline with the feel of an intimate flower garden. Above the long staircase carved out of the natural cliffs lies fuschia Oleander blooms, an iconic flower of the Amalfi coast. The green leaves and deep shades of pink against the aquamarine water are spectacular, and the Oleanders even smell like sweet apricots.

The sensory overload continues in the rooms. In place of cold tile, grass is grown as the flooring for several of the hotel balconies—which complements the suite’s outdoor showers. These vibrant, nature-inspired hues became the accent colors for the rooms against coastal white floors and tiles. There’s also no forgetting the luxurious Smeg coffee maker and tea kettle that were the focal points of the minibar. For the bath products, guests are given Carthusia—a Capri staple, and legend has it the brand dates all the way back to 1380.

Miramalfi also has two restaurants: Sautè for lunch and Donna Emma La Cucina for dinner. These two hot spots also have the Amalfi coast as a backdrop. With fresh local ingredients like lobster, squid, mussels, and every other type of seafood taking over the menu, it's an appropriate backdrop to the exclusive gastronomic experience. Between the impeccable architecture, excellent food, and even better views, this is your sign to find a new travel perspective.
