Why Harry and Meghan Are Feeling “Relieved” to Have Paid Off Frogmore Cottage

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle just got themselves a Netflix deal worth a rumored $50 to $100 million, and it allowed them to pay back British taxpayers for renovations on Frogmore Cottage. Which, CONGRATS! And according a source who spoke to Vanity Fair royal reporter Katie Nicholl, the couple is thrilled they were able to pay back the money so fast—especially since they faced a ton of criticism about how much their renovation cost.

The source says Meghan and Harry were “very relieved and very pleased” to have been able to pay back the money so quickly, explaining, “This has been a proactive step and something they wanted to do from the outset. There was no requirement [from the Queen] for them to pay the money back, but it was important to them that they did, and after the Netflix deal, they were in a position to do so. I think this is quite a significant moment for them. They’re now in their forever home, it’s the start of their new life, and they’re very much looking forward to everything that’s about to come.”

The couple’s spokesperson confirmed that they’d paid back the money in a statement, saying, “A contribution has been made to the Sovereign Grant by The Duke of Sussex. This contribution, as originally offered by Prince Harry, has fully covered the necessary renovation costs of Frogmore Cottage, a property of Her Majesty The Queen....”

On top of this good news, Meghan and Harry have reportedly achieved financial independence and are longer using money from Prince Charles’s Duchy of Cornwall. The New York Times confirmed as much in a correction to their article about the Sussexes’ Netflix deal, writing, “An earlier version of this article referred incorrectly to a source of income for Prince Harry and his wife, Meghan. They do not draw income from the Duchy of Cornwall as they did before they left Britain.”

Literally, where do I hire Meghan and Harry’s financial advisor?
