Why Hailey Baldwin and Justin Bieber Aren't at the AMAs
Mr. and Mrs. Justin Bieber's first-ever red carpet date night isn't this evening…nor will they take in Selena Gomez's first live performance of her new music—songs that are believed to be about her and Bieber's final breakup. Neither the Biebs nor his wife Hailey Baldwin walked the American Music Awards red carpet and they weren't listed on the seating chart, either. Gomez is opening the show.
Bieber has no nominations tonight and has not attended any award show since the Grammys in 2016. TMZ reported last year that Bieber will skip all award shows until his new album is released and he has new music to perform and promote. That's coming soon but not yet.
Baldwin, meanwhile, has been in Germany this week for work. She returned this weekend to Los Angeles. Bieber was photographed going to a dance studio today in the city, and he and Baldwin were photographed on a lunch date out too.
Rumors circulated in the days leading up to the ceremony that the Biebs could be performing "10,000 Hours" with Dan + Shay on stage. The Biebs released the collaboration days after his second wedding to Baldwin. He could still make a surprise appearance later, although there's been no hints on the red carpet that he will be.
Bieber's ex-girlfriends Gomez and Taylor Swift both attended the AMAs. Gomez's new songs, "Lose You to Love Me" and "Look at Her Now," are believed to be about Bieber and address how she felt about him moving on from their on-off relationship to Baldwin so quickly.
Bieber and Gomez dated for the last time in the fall of 2017. They were reportedly on a break turned breakup in March/April 2018. Then the Biebs started dating Baldwin in June 2018. They got engaged in July 2018 and married in a courthouse in September 2018.
Bieber has been gearing up to release new music. People was told by a source last week that he's super excited about it. “A new album will be released very soon. Hopefully in time for the holidays,” the outlet's source said. “Justin is also preparing for a tour next year. He is in intense dance rehearsal." Baldwin will join him on tour, the source added. “[She] is, of course, supportive and plans on touring with Justin. It’s all very exciting.”
