Why Fans Think Mark Wahlberg Was Jessica Simpson's Mystery 'Movie Star' Suitor

She previously revealed a former secret romance with a 'massive' Hollywood actor—and fans think they know who it is.

Is Mark Wahlberg the mystery man who romanced Jessica Simpson? Internet sleuths surely think so.

Earlier this week, Simpson published her short-story "Movie Star: They Always Say They're Single," in which she spilled the tea on a previous relationship with an unnamed "massive movie star."

The Dukes of Hazzard alum, 42, said she was on a break from then-partner Nick Lachey when a "hot" Hollywood heartthrob tried to seduce her, though he wasn't single.

She kept her lips tightly sealed about who the mystery man was, but fans have since put some of the clues together and theorized that Wahlberg, 51, seems a very likely possibility.

Here are all the reasons fans think Mark Wahlberg might have been Jessica Simpson's secret paramour: 

To start, the clothing designer said she first met the mystery man at the 2001 MTV VMA's, where she claimed he was "undressing me with his eyes," per Page Six. She noted that he was wearing jeans and a T-shirt, which happens to be the attire Wahlberg was wearing at the award show that year.

Additionally, Simpson called the secret lover a "teenage fantasy" of hers, which means the mystery man would have had to be famous in the '90s considering she was already a star in 2001. Wahlberg was a rapper in Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch and brief member of New Kids on the Block, who also kickstarted his movie career in 1994.

Plus, she said the movie star knew her trainer, and everybody knows that Wahlberg is a workout junkie, so it would make sense for them to get connected through someone in the fitness world.

After the Employee of the Month actress divorced Lachey in 2006, she claimed to have reconnected and shared a kiss with her unnamed suitor, who told her that his relationship with his current girlfriend was "completely over."

She recalled meeting up with him the same year at the Beverly Hills Hotel while he got ready for an awards show. "He texted me throughout the awards show... Shortly after I saw a photo of Movie Star on a red carpet with her. I was never ever in a million years going to be the other woman."

Fans further speculated that Simpson could've been referring to Wahlberg's appearance at the 2006 Golden Globes with now-wife Rhea Durham, who was pregnant at the time, though the pair had not yet gotten married.

“I didn’t care if he was my teenage fantasy come to life, this was not a choice that same girl, my younger self, would be proud of,” she wrote in her story, which was published on Wednesday, Feb. 1.

Simpson also noted that she visited him on a movie set, with one fan pointing out that Wahlberg's The Departed came out around that time as did Shooter.

Celebrity gossip account Deuxmoi even seemed to confirm the Simpson and Wahlberg theory with a blind item submitted by a fan that notes he's from a part of town that "loves their Dunkin," aka Boston where Wahlberg was born.

We may never get confirmation about who the story is really about, but we know things ended up working out well for Simpson in the romance department a few years down the road.

She is now married to husband Eric Johnson, with whom she shares kids Maxwell, Birdie and Ace. Wahlberg and Durham are still together, with four kids: Ella, Michael, Brendan and Grace.
