Why Eva Mendes Isn't on the Oscars Red Carpet With Ryan Gosling

Ryan Gosling just arrived at the Oscars and if you're wondering why Eva Mendes isn't with him, it's pretty simple: they don't do any red carpets or events together. Which is why Ryan showed up with his sister, Mandi Gosling, tonight and why he's been solo at every Barbie premiere up until now!

Eva has actually explained her reason for not accompanying Ryan to premiers in detail, in the event that you simply need to know more. Earlier in the Barbie press tour, she responded to a fan who wrote “I really hope Barbie will get through the awards season just to see you w Ryan” on the below Instagram.

After thanking the fan for their "cool comment," Eva explained "we don’t do those things together. Like these photos I’ve been posting, I’m only comfortable posting because it’s already out there.”

She then added, “Oh, wait—for those who may catch me in a ‘lie’—we only were on the red carpet together once when promoting this film.” Here's the pic she's referring to, from their 2012 film, The Place Beyond the Pines.

While Eva didn't accompany Ryan on the Oscars carpet (she could still show up inside!), she made it clear how proud she is of his nomination on Instagram, writing “So proud of my man. So much hate when he took on this role. So many people trying to shame him for doing it. Despite all the #NotMyKen ridicule and articles written about him, he created this completely original, hilarious, heartbreaking, now iconic character and took it all the way to the Oscars.”

Ryan's nominated for Best Supporting Actor for his work on Barbie, and "I'm Just Ken" is nominated for Best Original Song. Meaning, yes, Ryan is going to perform it!
