Emma Watson doesn't appear on red carpets often, and despite her film Little Women's Oscar nominations, the actress didn't come to the Academy Awards tonight. While disappointing, it's not surprising: She only attended the film's New York City premiere, and she hasn't been to the Oscars in six years.

Little Women is nominated for several Oscars tonight: Saoirse Ronan has a Best Actress nomination for her work as Jo March; Florence Pugh has a Best Supporting Actress nomination for her work as Amy March; Greta Gerwig has a Best Adapted Screenplay nomination; Jacqueline Durran has a Best Costume Design nomination; the entire cast has a Best Motion Picture nomination; and Alexandre Desplat has a Best Original Score nomination.

And her last big red carpet appearance was two months ago at the New York City premiere of Little Women. There she went with a more goth look, choosing a black dress with a vampy lip.

Watson plays Meg March in the film. Ahead of Little Women's release, she spoke about how she feels about turning 30 this year and how she came to embrace being single. "I was like, ‘Why does everyone make such a big fuss about turning 30? This is not a big deal…’" she started. “Cut to 29, and I’m like, ‘Oh my God, I feel so stressed and anxious. And I realize it’s because there is suddenly this bloody influx of subliminal messaging around. If you have not built a home, if you do not have a husband, if you do not have a baby, and you are turning 30, and you’re not in some incredibly secure, stable place in your career, or you’re still figuring things out… There’s just this incredible amount of anxiety."

With being single, “I never believed the whole ‘I’m happy single’ spiel,” she admitted. “I was like, ‘This is totally spiel.’ It took me a long time, but I’m very happy [being single]. I call it being self-partnered.”
