Angelina Jolie’s faded from the spotlight in recent years. Her last big film was The Eternals two years ago, in which she played Marvel superhero Thena in an ensemble cast. Before then, Maleficent: Mistress of Evil in 2019. So, what’s she up to?

The Academy Award-winning actress revealed all in a recent interview with Vogue, addressing why she hasn’t taken on my movie roles of late. According to Jolie, she started doing less film work “seven years ago, only taking jobs that didn’t require long shoots. We had a lot of healing to do. We’re still finding our footing.”

“I think part of this has also been therapeutic for me—to work in a creative space with people you trust and to rediscover yourself. I’m hoping to change many aspects of my life. And this is the forward-facing one.”

In the interview, Jolie sometimes cuts a forlorn figure, which could also explain her absence from movies. "Now I wonder if I don’t know what my style is because I’m still understanding who I am at 48. I guess I’m in transition as a person. I feel a bit down these days. I don’t feel like I’ve been myself for a decade, in a way, which I don’t want to get into.”

That’s not to say Jolie has completely retired from acting. She has several projects lined up, including her reprisal of martial arts tiger Tigress in Dreamworks’ Kung Fu Panda 4. She’s also set to star in Every Note Played, which is about a piano virtuoso who’s diagnosed with a rare neurological disease. There are even rumors of a third Maleficent film.

So don’t worry about Angelina Jolie. She’s keeping herself busy.
