Why Do Dogs Tilt Their Heads? The Answer Is Too Cute

So that explains it!

Anyone who owns a dog knows the power of the head tilt. It's one of the cutest things a dog can do! Pups tilt their heads in response to a number of different sounds, but it's downright irresistible when it happens while their owner is talking.

As precious as head tilts are, not everyone knows what they mean. That's why @gatsbythemaltipoo and his loving owner made a TikTok video to explain--check it out!

OK, first of all--how adorable is Gatsby? His little face is as cute as can be, but when he tilts his head we practically melted. And we're not the only ones!

"It's the cutest thing ever," agreed @trechia52. Isn't it? We wouldn't be surprised if dogs do learn to use head tilts as a way to get a reaction from their humans, especially once they see how big of a reaction they get. But normally, head tilts help dogs engage and hear better.

Like @deborahsusandavalle said, "I think they're trying to understand." It could be! Many commenters have noticed that their dogs tilt their heads when specific phrases are said, so we think this theory could be going somewhere.

@Jen_ny13 shared, "my dog does that with the words he loves which are 'treats,' 'let's go to the park,' and that's it." Haha! We bet a lot of pet parents can relate to that. After all, who doesn't snap to attention at the sound of their favorite words? Even people inquisitively tilt their heads sometimes, so it's no wonder that dogs do too.
