If you were watching America’s beloved singing competition on Monday, November 27, 2023, there was a mysterious absence so viewers were left wondering why did Tom Nitti leave The Voice? Fans noticed he was not there for the second round of the playoffs for Season 24 and were hungry for answers.

The Voice premiered in April 2011 with coaches Blake Shelton, Adam Levine, Christina Aguilera, and Cee Lo Green. Immediately, the show became a hit for its simple but irresistible premise: You judge singers on their voices alone, meaning in the audition rounds, the judges’ chairs have their backs facing the stage around as contestants perform.

If they like a contestant and want them on their team, they press the red button in front of them, which turns around their chairs and allows them to see the singer. If more than one judge presses his or her button, the contestant is allowed to choose the celebrity they want as their coach—but not before a hilarious bidding war between the famous judges. While the voice-only premise just lasts for the audition rounds, it makes for a fun and innovative singing competition.

But as season 24 progressed, viewers were left wondering why did Tom Nitti leave The Voice? Here’s everything we know about the talented singer’s absence.

Why did Tom Nitti leave The Voice? We don’t know much, but during the opening of the episode that aired on November 27, 2023, aired, Tom’s coach Reba McEntire revealed: “I have wonderfully talented people, but Tom had to leave for personal reasons, so I only have five artists tonight,” she said. It was later announced that he would not be returning for the rest of the season.

“Long story short, my kids come first…and there are some ugly people in the world and you know you gotta kinda just keep your head up and keep pushing forward… and choices and decisions and picking the right path has to ultimately be in the forefront and obviously, as I said at the end of the day, my kids always, always come first,” Nitti told WIBX’s Keeler in a radio interview.

In a lengthy Facebook post, Nitti explained further. “Well, I’ve been dreading this day ever since the blind audition so here goes nothin’. …First and foremost I’m blessed beyond belief and I can’t say enough how much I love and appreciate the constant support from my fans, my friends and my family…As much as it absolutely stings to say, I had to make probably one of the hardest yet easiest decisions ever and ultimately at the end of the day, my kids will always come first and if I had to make the same decision again I’d do it over and over…..”

He continued: “This past summer was filled to the max with everything I love and could’ve only dreamed of and Thanks to @nbcthevoice I was able to live my wildest dreams and do what I’ve always hoped. I made friends that’ll last a life time, experiences that I can hold on to forever and even found REAL and TRUE love (@ashleybryantofficial)….”

“I wish I can put every single person in this post that had my back going through the tough times while I was in California like @jacquieroar @huntleymusic @lennonvmusic @officiallybias @marajustine1 @thejordanrainer @steemusic @reba but nonetheless I hope everyone knows how happy and grateful i am for them. This isn’t the end of me and I’ll do what I do best for everyone to see which is keep my head down and move forward playing music and raising/creating new memories with a family I will continue to grow.”

The post concluded: “I never believed in the whole, things happen for a reason statement but in this case I think God has it all figured out. He knows I don’t break easily. For everyone asking, I’m alright and still standing. Thank you so much and as always, I’m super pumped to keep on keepin’ on with music, my kids Rayleigh and Brently my whole family to include my smokin’ girlfriend that keeps my head held high… Im more than ready to continue to live life now happier than ever before.”

According to his contestant bio, Nitti “grew up in an Italian/Puerto Rican family with his parents and his sister, Celene. Exposed to a wide range of musical genres from an early age, he was inspired by Motown artists such as Stevie Wonder, Ray Charles and The Temptations. At 18, he taught himself to play guitar, but he put his musical aspirations on hold to join the military after graduating high school.

Tom was stationed in Germany and deployed to Afghanistan where he sustained injuries and was awarded the Purple Heart. After his military service, Tom followed in his father’s footsteps and joined law enforcement. Tom served as a New York State Trooper for eight years and now trains new troopers at the New York State Police Academy. Tom’s passion for music has remained constant and he gigs weekly. He has opened for artists such as Craig Campbell, Hunter Hayes and Chris Janson. Aside from his two kids, Tom’s biggest supporters are his mother and grandfather.”
