Season 3 of the Netflix hit Dead to Me recently made its way onto the streaming platform, much to our - and fans around the world's - delight. But for those who haven't become obsessed with the show and its two leading ladies yet - Jen Harding (Christina Applegate) and Judy Hale (Linda Cardellini), the series follows the two women who form a ride-or-die friendship in the most unlikely of circumstances.

From trying to get away with murder to trying to raise a family (complete with plenty of Thelma and Louise-style escapades throughout), the show has been a smash with fans, all of whom are now trying to come to terms with the fact that season 3 will be its last. But why?

Well, the news was actually confirmed a while back, and before the latest episodes even dropped on Netflix. Applegate, who also serves as executive producer on the series, previously revealed that the decision to end the show was purely a creative choice.

Speaking in 2020, the 50-year-old said: "We felt this was the best way to tie up the story of these women." While it breaks our hearts to hear these words, Applegate's announcement wasn't the only one to do so.

Liz Feldman, the creator of Dead to Me also shared the news when chatting to Deadline in 2020, and said that the show had been an "incredible gift." "From start to finish, Dead to Me is exactly the show I wanted to make," she said. "Telling a story sprung from grief and loss has stretched me as an artist and healed me as a human."

She continued: "I'll be forever indebted to my partners in crime, my friends for life, Christina and Linda, and our brilliantly talented writers, cast and crew. I am beyond grateful to Netflix for supporting Dead to Me from day one."

But in the midst of this bad news plus the fact that we'll never see Jen and Judy together on our screens again, there is some good to come from all this. Feldman has already confirmed her next Netflix project, which means if it's anything like Dead to Me, at least we've got something to look forward to.

Dead to Me is now streaming on Netflix.
