Why Dairy Isn’t as Bad as It Seems

To say a healthy diet is an important aspect of creating an amazing life would be an understatement.

However, there is so much information out there about what is healthy (much of which is contradictory) that it’s tough to really know if what you are eating is serving you.

Thankfully, I got some good advice from a nutrition expert — who also happens to be a friend I went to high school with!

Liz Wolfe is a Paleo expert who lives on her own farm, grows her own food, and raises her own animals. She wrote a book on her philosophy for eating clean, in which she explains how simplifying the way we see food can enable us to eat well without the stress.

In our conversation, I had to ask Liz about dairy since it seems to be a sore spot for the Paleo and vegan communities.

What Liz said surprised me. She explained that historically, humans have kept animals like cows and goats to access their milk as a sustainable, fresh source of nutrition, especially in areas where it’s hard to grow crops year-round.

However, conventional dairy, as we see it in the store today, is problematic due to the chemicals, hormones, antibiotics, and unhealthy substances that are present in animals raised in factory farms (where the big majority of dairy comes from).

If you can’t live on a farm and raise your own animals to milk, it’s important to find a source of dairy that is clean. If not, Liz recommends skipping it altogether.
