Every year, the Emmys dedicate a small portion of the award ceremony to say goodbye to those who’ve both influenced the entertainment world and passed away since the prior broadcast last year and last night was no different. Having said adieu to some of the greats such as Gene Wilder, Natalie Cole, Gary Marshall, David Bowie, Prince, and Muhammad Ali, those absent from the farewell list included transgender actress, Alexis Arquette, actor, Larry Drake, Mob Wives star, Angela Raiola, wrestler, Chyna, and, most notably due to an Emmy win by The Voice, 3rd place winner of season six, Christina Grimmie.

Grimmie, a New Jersey native, was fatally shot by a fan at an Orlando concert this past June. She was just 22 years old at the time of her death and a rising star at that. Fans immediately took to Twitter to show their upset.

Not absent from the annual “In Memorium” was friend and supporter of Grimmie’s, Tori Kelly, who sang a beautiful rendition of Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah.” Just after Grimmie’s passing, Kelly released a ballad titled “Blink of an Eye” to help with the grieving process for bother herself, and others.

“My heart was & is still so heavy when I think of her not being with us,” she said. “However, I am still comforted knowing that I’ll get to see her again someday in heaven.”

It’s a beautiful sentiment. We only hope to see Christina’s talent and memory honored somehow and Tori Kelly and all Grimmie’s fans have done, and continue to do, just that.
