Why Christina Aguilera Is 'Honest and Open' About Her Cosmetic Procedures

The pop icon doesn't 'believe in judgment.'

Christina Aguilera sees no need to hide having had cosmetic procedures.

In an interview with Allure, the 42-year-old opened up about receiving anti-wrinkle injections as part of a new partnership with Merz Aesthetics and Xeomin, a brand of incobotulinumtoxinA injections geared toward frown lines between the eyebrows.

"I think we all can rely on a little help," she told the publication. "Why not?"

But while many recipients of cosmetic procedures are hesitant to admit to it, Aguilera is an open book. "I think it's great to share and to be honest and open about what you're doing—in your comfort zone, of course," she explained. "I've always been a pretty open book about embracing my body, my looks, and things like that."

She continued, "I think to each their own, and I think we [should] all do what's right for us, so I don't believe in judgment where that's concerned whatsoever. But for me, I like to make sure what I put in my body is the safest it can be."

Aguilera disclosed that she had a conversation with her dermatologist before using Xeomin to make sure it was the right treatment for her, noting the importance of maintaining movement in her face.

"When I'm on stage, authenticity in my face comes first. I have a very expressive face, and when I sing, the emotion there has got to come through. I don't have time to have a stoic, still face," she pointed out. "For me, it's about bringing that realness to the stage and my daily life while still doing what I can to feel and look my best."

As for her daily routine, she credits an affordable, classic brand for her smooth skin. "I've tried so many different things and expensive routes, and I always come back to Cetaphil," explained Aguilera. "I do not fuss with a 50-step beauty baloney routine. It's just not for me."

But while she's more than happy to divulge her secrets, she does worry about the scrutiny women face for their looks online, especially as her eight-year-old daughter, Summer grows closer to being old enough for social media, which Aguilera is "very conscious of."

The pop icon wants to make sure to celebrate her daughter's uniqueness, encouraging her to find confidence in herself without having to fit the ideals of anyone else.

"I always try to impose individuality, doing what she feels is right for her," said Aguilera. "Even when she goes to pick out her clothes and she's like, 'I just don't know what to wear.' I'm like, 'Wear what you like. It doesn't matter at the end of the day. You're going to have an amazing day and you're going to feel amazing."
