Why Are Chrissy Teigen and Donald Trump Twitter Feuding Again?

What’s a “filthy mouthed wife”? It’s a phrase nobody should ever use in polite company, so, of course, Donald Trump decided to hop on Twitter and address Chrissy Teigen that way. After John Legend appeared on MSNBC’s criminal justice reform town hall on Sunday night, the President responded in a series of tweets, claiming he was able to accomplish important criminal law reform “with a group of Senators & others who would never have gone for it,” adding that his predecessor “Obama couldn’t come close.”

It’s all classic playground-energy number 45, but how does Teigen fit in? Trump criticized Legend first, and then, seemingly apropos of nothing, referred to Teigen as Legend’s “filthy mouthed wife”: “But now that it is passed, people that had virtually nothing to do with it are taking the praise. Guys like boring musician @johnlegend, and his filthy mouthed wife, are talking now about how great it is—but I didn’t see them around when we needed help getting it passed,” Trump tweeted.

To cap off his tirade, Trump accused “the people that so desperately sought my help when everyone else had failed” of calling for his impeachment.

In his very not-boring response, Legend tapped an unexpected person for assistance: Melania Trump. “Imagine being president of a whole country and spending your Sunday night hate-watching MSNBC hoping somebody—ANYBODY—will praise you. Melania, please praise this man. He needs you.”

As for Teigen—well, nobody could express it better than the Twitter phenomenon herself:

After #PresidentPussyAssBitch started trending on social media, Teigen returned to her regular Sunday night activities: eating pasta and watching 90 Day Fiancé.

Many watching the feud unfold on Twitter immediately joined Team Chrissy:

It looks like John Legend is a wife guy now!

Look, it’s all fun and games to watch the queen of Twitter dunk on the President (he blocked her in 2017 after she tweeted, “Lolllllll no one likes you”), but as former Obama staffer Alyssa Mastromonaco pointed out: Let’s not forget, there are other, more pressing issues Trump should be seeing to than this social media spat.
