Charli D’Amelio is a mega social media icon with a staggering 136.8 million (!) followers on TikTok. So, it might be easy to forget that she is still only 17 years old, and experiences the same skin blemishes and acne breakouts like many other teenagers do.

On Tuesday, February 22, reporter Kat Tenbarge posted two makeup-free photos of Charli on Twitter. The side-by-side selfies, which Charli had included in a carousel of photos in a recent Instagram post, show clusters of pimples around her mouth and chin. “I think it’s really nice that Charli D’Amelio doesn’t edit out her acne!!,” Kat wrote in her Tweet.

The next day, on February 23, Charli replied to Kat’s post and explained why she does not retouch her photos: “It’s taken me a long time to feel comfortable in my skin but this is how I look and makeup only helps so much I have to be confident and learn to love every ‘imperfection’ that I have but each one makes me unique and special in my own way,” she wrote.

Charli’s fans celebrated her honestly on the social media platform. “charli we all really appreciate you being so raw and real with us and letting us know that’s it normal to have acne and not a flaw! ilysm 🤍,” one user wrote.

“we are so proud of you charli,” penned another fan.

Charli has previously opened up about her acne struggles. In February 2021, she took to her Instagram Story to document a recent breakout and remind her followers that these blemishes are common: “Even though you see me all done up most of the time and usually having mostly clear skin I still have to deal with acne, I am a teenager so whether it is stress or my period is completely normal to not have perfect skin and I wanted to show you that side of things instead of the picture perfect times only,” she wrote, per Just Jared Jr.
