Several celebrities used the 2022 Academy Awards last year to share their support for the current Ukraine refugee crisis.

Jaime Lee Curtis, Diane Warren, and Yuh-Jung Youn were some of the celebrities who were seen wearing blue ribbons while walking down the red carpet for the big award show. The hashtag #WithRefugees was written on the front in white.

The ribbons are a partnership with the celebs and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, which hopes to bring more awareness to the current refugee crisis, particularly as Ukrainian citizens flee the Russian invasion.

The agency tweeted out the hashtag and posted a photo featuring an award with the caption, “And the #Oscars for the best refugee advocate goes to…everyone who stands #WithRefugees. Thank you for your kindness.”

There’s no word on how many celebrities were asked to take part in this campaign, but many of them are stepping out and showing their support any way they can.

Last March, the United States government agreed to accept 100,000 Ukrainian refugees, according to the New York Times.

Prior to the ceremony, CNN reported that Oscars producers revealed they would “respectfully acknowledge” the current crisis in Ukraine during the show.

“This is a really [momentous] time in humankind history, and we’re very aware of that,” producer Will Packer said. “And so you don’t go into a show like this, I don’t think, and not be aware of that and not find a way to respectfully acknowledge where we are and how fortunate we are to even be able to put on this show.”

And it looks like this year the celebration continued at the 2023 Oscars! A number of celebs, including Bill Nighy and Cate Blanchett, wore the ribbon as an, “Emblem of compassion and solidarity for those who have been forced to flee their homes because of war, conflict and persecution.”
