Why Caitlin Wilson Has a "Cloffice" in Her HomeCaitlin Wilson

When you own your own business, you live and breathe it—around the clock. Even before the pandemic, juggling work and parenting responsibilities meant that working after hours was an everyday occurrence. As I conducted business from the chair I’d dragged to the kitchen counter, I dreamed of my own, quiet office space.

When I go into my Caitlin Wilson storefront on Henderson Avenue in Dallas, I’m often attending meetings and collaborating with my team. I want my home office to be the research wing of my brand: a zen space where I can really focus on big ideas and how to achieve them.

Because I like to work late at night and early in the morning, I decided to claim the room adjoining our primary bathroom as my office-closet hybrid (hence the name"cloffice"). That way, I don’t wake the kids—and I have a peaceful space where I can be creative and feel inspired.

What I Love About My "Cloffice"

It’s allllll mine.

This is a space where I can truly embrace my personality and lean into my favorite colors and patterns. Take the rug, for example. In most of the house, I’m keeping the rugs neutral, but here, I’ve chosen a rug that is feminine, elegant, and unique.

It’s wrapped with inspiration.

When I visit Paris’s high-end stores, I’m just as captivated by their design as with the products they sell. Because my office will double as a closet, I’m taking the opportunity to display some of my favorite jewelry and clothes—imagine a “French atelier” look—with wall-to-wall built-ins, well-lit mirrored cabinet doors, glass displays, and open shelving.

The hardware.

In my hidden kitchen article, I shared that hardware is like a room’s jewelry. Sometimes, you choose your earrings before you choose your dress. In this room, I’ve selected the kind of hardware that is like my favorite G.N.O. I chose classically inspired French hardware from Sherle Wagner that is over-the-top feminine and features beautiful flourishes.

It’s bright and happy.

At night, my cloffice is cozy and serene. But when the sun rises, natural light streams in through big windows on two walls. The view is our backyard’s lush, green, mature trees. These are perfect hues for feeding inspiration.

Best of all, this space is private. While we have a small den downstairs that can be used for a quick meeting, it’s in the middle of everything, and the kids can easily come in anytime. My cloffice is an opportunity to have a tranquil space, and that’s very exciting.
