Episode 7 of What If…? is all about noticing what’s missing. Titled "What If...Thor Were an Only Child?" it posits what would happen if Thor and Loki weren’t raised as brothers. In their comic book lore, Loki is actually a Jotunheim child taken in by Odin and raised as his own. In the newest episode, Odin decides to return Loki to his people and raise Thor as an only child. But don’t worry, we still get Loki, just in big, blue, Frost Giant, Avatar-like form.

Actors Tom Hiddleston and Chris Hemsworth returned to reprise their roles as Loki and 'Party Thor'. Both got to play even more jovial and bantering versions of their heroes since the episode is all about one big party Thor throws on Earth. So big, in fact, it threatens to destroy the planet in the process.

They’re also joined by a number of notable names from the MCU, including Natalie Portman as Dr. Jane Foster, Jaimie Alexander as Sif, Kat Dennings as Darcy Lewis, and Karen Gillan as Nebula. Plus, Howard the Duck (Seth Green) is back, adding even more comedy to an already fun episode.

After Nick Fury tries and fails to stop the party (and gets knocked out in the process), Maria Hill (Cobie Smulders) steps in as acting director of SHIELD. With limited options (and I guess no Avengers? Maybe this universe is connected to another one where some wonky stuff happens.), Maria pulls out a pager and calls Captain Marvel to clean up the rager Party Thor’s started. Except the character’s well-known actress, Brie Larson, is missing.

Here’s who voiced Captain Marvel in episode 7 of What If…?

Who Voices Captain Marvel in What If…?

Instead of Brie Larson, Captain Marvel is voiced by Alexandra Daniels. Marvel’s What If…? is actually the actress’s first voice acting credit, and one of her first major acting roles. She’s played as Captain Marvel in both episode 3 and 7 of the animated seeries so far.

Daniels is best known for playing the role of Abigail Cook in the television series Salem. She doesn’t give an exact imitation of Larson’s voice, unlike Steve Rogers’ voice actor, but it's pretty darn close. For her first voice acting credit, Daniels does a decent job of capturing the personality of Carol Danvers.

Why Isn't Brie Larson Voicing Captain Marvel?

There’s no known reason why Brie Larson is absent from What If…?. It's possible she was unavailable for the voiceover sessions due to working on another role, or that she was simply unavailable for the voice work. She's got good company, as Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson, and Elizabeth Olsen are all among those who didn't reprise their roles for the animated series.

For fans missing the actress, they can keep up with her impressive workouts on her social media.
