Tonight’s Oscars ceremony has been graced with loads of red-carpet royalty in the most dazzling of ensembles. Unfortunately, however, Beyoncé was not among the carpet’s overflow of star power. She didn’t opt for a quiet entrance to the show either (like she did at the 66th Grammy Awards), but rather skipped it altogether.

As much as the BeyHive was buzzing for another Academy Awards appearance and performance, the “Cuff It” singer’s absence really isn’t all that surprising. The Cécred founder was not nominated for any Oscars this year. She is also not among the roster of presenters of performers for the evening.

Beyoncé last attended the Academy Awards in 2022 in what was an unforgettable appearance for a number of reasons. That year, the pop icon received her first-ever Oscar nomination in the Music (Original Song) category for “Be Alive” from King Richard, the biographical sports drama about tennis champions Venus and Serena Williams’s father. (The award ultimately went to Billie Eilish and Finneas O’Connell for “No Time to Die”). Beyoncé opened the show with a pre-taped performance of the critically acclaimed anthem from a tennis court in Compton, looking electric in a neon-yellow sequin transparent dress by David Koma. Sticking with the vibrant theme, she looked stunning inside the ceremony in a sweeping daffodil-yellow gown that featured a figure-hugging construction, sweetheart neckline, off-the-shoulder taffeta cape, and matching gloves. Fittingly, she paired the centerpiece with a bedazzled tennis ball-shaped purse and diamond waterfall earrings.

Her appearance at the 94th ceremony came after a 13-year hiatus from film’s biggest night. Previous to this, she attended in 2009 to perform a medley of musical tunes with Hugh Jackman, Zac Efron, and Amanda Seyfried; in 2007 to perform “Listen” and “Dreamgirls” with her Dreamgirls co-stars Jennifer Hudson and Anika Noni Rose; and made her Oscars debut in 2005, when she took the stage on three separate occasions to perform.
