Ariana Grande opted to skip the MTV VMAs this evening in Brooklyn. The singer was not seen on the Brooklyn red carpet, although she is up for multiple awards.

Grande is nominated for Artist of the Year, Best Pop Song (“Positions”), and Best Choreography (“34+35”). Grande lost Best Pop Song to Olivia Rodrigo, and with her other nominations in competitive categories (and the COVID-19 pandemic ongoing), it's understandable why she chose to stay home for the evening.

It's unclear whether Grande will attend the Met Gala tomorrow; the singer has kept a low profile and her whereabouts private for the most part this week.

Grande's skipping the event comes after her interview with Allure was released earlier this week. Grande just announced her r.e.m. beauty line. She has privately been working on the line for two years: “Coveting the secret for the past two years and having testers and samplers in my purse, and people asking me, ‘Oh, I love your highlight, what are you wearing?’ And me being like, ‘I don’t know', sweating,’” Grande detailed of the lengths she went to keep the news under the wraps. “It was so hard to keep a secret for this long.”

She also reflected on entering the beauty space where so many makeup brands, including celeb-fronted ones, already exist. Does she think “that it’s crowded?” she started. “I’ve thought a lot about this, of course, because I don’t want to just hop onto any bandwagons ever. I think that...I wear my peers’ makeup as well, just like I listen to their music. I’m not going to say, ‘Oh, there’s too many female artists.’ I love and I’m [a] huge fan of my peers that do both, and I think that it’s just another way to tell stories. Because you can never have enough makeup, just like you can never have enough music.”

In terms of her other projects, Grande admitted that she currently isn't as focused on creating new music but on “new versions of storytelling.” Allure mentioned that Grande is notably “working with an acting coach who trains leading ladies.”
