Those excited about Ariana Grande’s first big red carpet fashion moment of 2021 will have to wait a little longer. The singer opted not to attend the 2021 Grammys tonight in Los Angeles despite winning her category.

While Grande is based in the city (she and her fiancé Dalton Gomez were photographed out in Santa Monica on March 6, in fact), it’s possible she doesn’t find all the risks and protocol around attending an award show in-person during the coronavirus pandemic to be worth it.

Grande is only up for one award: Best Pop Duo/Group Performance with Lady Gaga for “Rain on Me.” She and Lady Gaga were announced as the winners of that category (beating out BTS in an upset) ahead of the ceremony.

Grande tweeted to Lady Gaga to celebrate their victory: "eternally, deeply grateful for u, for this experience, to have been a part of this song and this celebration of healing and recovery, to be able to dance in the rain with u, to call u my dear friend & to now share this. beyond thankful. congratulations queen, ti voglio bene !"

Grande’s not slated to perform at the ceremony this year, and her album positions, which came out in October 2020, wasn’t eligible to be nominated. The Grammys nomination period ran from September 1, 2019, to August 31, 2020. Positions will be eligible for awards at the 2022 ceremony.

Grande’s duet partner Lady Gaga also isn't at the ceremony tonight. Gaga is over in Rome, shooting House of Gucci with Adam Driver.

Grande did get a sweet shoutout from the boys of BTS this week. They are also nominated in the Best Pop Duo/Group Performance category tonight. RM spoke to Radio.com about how the K-pop group likes working out to her album positions. “Ariana’s new album, is the best for the treadmill. The tempo and her voice, is amazing,” RM said with a smile.

Grande has given BTS love in the past and even shared an Instagram of herself hanging out with the boys last January, when they were both rehearsing to perform at the 2020 Grammys.
