According to Google there has been a 390% increase in those searching for 'Bronde hair' in recent months with blonde being the third most searched for colour. The hair colour combination is favoured by many who can't decide what colour they want and is also a great colour-switch if you want to opt for a more youthful shade.

As we age our complexions change and become more sallow meaning the once bright blonde or mono-toned dark hue that used to look great on you could be draining your complexion and making you look older. "It’s important to consider that your face shape and also the texture of your hair changes as you get older," says celebrity hairstylist Larry King. "This will affect what style best suits you and is something a good stylist will take into consideration if you are opting for a youthful  cut or colour," advises King.

"Many women are risk adverse and get stuck in a hair rut when they turn forty. They find something they love and usually stick with it for years in fear that changing their style will age them," says King. Think about it, do you still wear the blue mascara that was trendy in the sixties? I think not . As women and men get older, they expect their hairstyle, cut or colour to enhance their features or conceal their age which is why it's important to switch it up and see forty as an age to embark on a whole new you.

Celebrity hair: blonde vs brunette

What colour is bronde hair?

Bronde hair colour is as it sounds, a combination of both brown and blonde-toned ombres and balayages. "Bronde is neither blonde or brunette – it is a multidimensional hair colour – a fuse between blonde and brunette," says hairstylist Harriet Muldoon of Larry King. "It's a popular choice among brunettes who want to try something slightly lighter but don't want the maintenance of going fully blonde," says Muldoon. It's also great for blondes who want to tone down their look by adding a darker hue throughout.

As you get older, your skin tone changes and becomes less flattering against bold one-tone colours, like hair colours. "Adding warmer tones throughout your hairstyle will enhance your neck, cheekbones and eye colour leaving you with a more youthful complexion," advises King

How to dye your hair bronde

Dying your hair bronde takes time and skill so is best left to a colour professional in salon. The technique is designed to be softer than ombre and focuses on framing the face by precise application. "We take the shade slightly higher but still allow a root smudge so that it will appear more natural in its aesthetic," says Muldoon.

"If your original hair colour is brown, we add blonde highlights and if you are originally blonde, we add brown streaks of colour to blend," advises Muldoon.

Bronde hair is all about being subtle so it's important to consider your over all tone and also hair texture as, if your hair is super dry, darker tones will look more healthy. The colour should be softer toward the mid-section and lighter toward the ends but again this is bespoke to each person's face shape and hair texture.  Always apply a hair gloss to seal in the colour. Redken Shades EQ gloss is great if you want to add shine and condition to the hair.
