Why you should act quickly if your iPhone battery is rubbish

I love an iPhone, but I don't love the fact that you essentially have to become surgically attached to a portable charger if your model is over 18 months old. It's a well known fact that when Apple phone batteries deteriorate, they really deteriorate, and you're left living your life in fear of the cliff-edge drop from 65% to 1% in a matter of minutes.

Dull screens and a permanent state of 'low power mode' it is, then.

But if I'm describing the everyday ordeal you endure at the hands of your iPhone, you don't have to suffer in silence. Hell, you don't have to suffer at all - but you've only got a couple of days left to solve the problem cheaply.

Because did you know that Apple has been offering to replace low-functioning iPhone batteries for just £25 for the past year? And did you know that the £25 offer expires at the end of 2018? It's time to act fast, folks.

Around this time last year it was revealed that, in order to avoid unexpected shutdowns of devices, a programme Apple introduced may have slowed down the performance of some older phones. As part of the company's strategy to make it up to disappointed customers, it said it would offer people the chance to replace the affected parts (namely, the batteries) for cheaper than they had previously been available.

Thanks to the year-long discount, owners of affected iPhone batteries (whose phones weren't already covered by warranty or extended AppleCare) could swap theirs out for a brand new one for just £25 as opposed to the previous cost of £79. But when the clock strikes midnight on New Year's Eve, the programme will end and the price will reportedly increase to £45 (or £65 for iPhone X owners). Happy new year to you, too, Apple.

If you want to take advantage of the cheap offer to replace your iPhone battery, all you've got to do is go to an Apple store and head to the Genius Bar. But be warned, because of the deal soon expiring, Genius Bar appointments may be increasingly tricky to come by.

If you can't snap one up in the next 48 hours, however, it's still worth popping along to see if there's anyone who can help. You'll thank yourself when you unpack that portable charger from your handbag and go forth, free in the knowledge your phone isn't going to die on you without warning.
