Whole Foods Recalled Several Prepared Foods Made With Spinach Due To Salmonella Concerns
If your lunch routine sometimes involves grabbing a sandwich, salad, or pizza from Whole Foods, listen up. A recall on Satur Farms' baby spinach and mesclun may have affected the grocery store chain, leading Whole Foods to voluntarily recall select prepared food products containing baby spinach.
During routine testing by the Florida Department of Agriculture and New York State Department of Agriculture, Salmonella was detected in some Satur Farms product. The farm then issued a voluntary recall of 5, 10, and 16-ounce bags and boxes of spinach and mesclun (lot numbers for affected items are available here).
In response, Whole Foods recalled several salads, pizza, sandwiches and wraps in Connecticut, Florida, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, and Rhode Island. No illnesses related to the recall have been reported so far, though Whole Foods recommends people in these states discard items purchased through January 23, 2019.
More than 50 products were recalled, including the Chicken Florentine Panini, Smoked Turkey with Apple & Cheddar Sandwich, Paleo Mediterranean Tuna Salad, Egg White & Spinach Breakfast, and Spinach Strawberry Goat Cheese Salad. The full list of products is available via the FDA.
