The first episode of the ABC reality competition Claim to Fame eliminated its first contestant on June 25 — and now everyone is talking about Tom Hanks’s niece Carly Reeves.

Reeves captivated audiences and Twitter users after having an outburst on the show for being eliminated and, in her opinion, not getting enough camera time. In a viral clip that has circulated social media since the episode aired, Reeves can be heard shouting, “I didn’t even get to do any challenges. I don’t deserve this; I should have more camera time. I should be here longer.”

What is the TV show Claim to Fame?

The reality show is in its second season and is hosted by Kevin and Frankie Jonas, of Jonas Brothers fame. The premise is that all of the contestants are relatives of celebrities, and the goal is for other contestants to guess each person’s “claim to fame.” If someone is able to guess another person’s famous relative, that person is eliminated. But if they guess incorrectly, they will be eliminated.

Show participants can win various competitions that will reward them with clues about other people’s identities, but it’s mostly based on conversations and social interactions between the contestants.

In the first episode, contestant Hugo was asked to make a guess about another player and chose Reeves. With only a few clues, he was somehow able to correctly guess that Reeves is Tom Hanks’s niece. But Reeves didn’t think the clues were that hard.

“These frickin’ clues are so frickin’ obvious,” she said. “Frickin’ bench? It’s the frickin’ poster of frickin’ Forrest Gump, are you kidding me? Why a bench? Why a bench? There’s literally no benches in any other movie.”

How is Carly Reeves related to Tom Hanks?

Reeves is a 39-year-old aspiring actress, and her mom is the sister of actress Rita Wilson, who is married to Hanks. Wilson and Hanks got married when Reeves was four years old in 1988.

In a 2018 post, Reeves shared that she viewed Hanks as a father figure to her while she was growing up.

“I have looked up to you my whole life in awe and wonder how someone can be so talented, intelligent, understanding, compassionate, wise, and freaking NICE,” she wrote in the birthday post. “Thank you for being there in my life, like a dad, but the best uncle.”

Reeves responds to going viral

In an Instagram post on June 27, Reeves addressed her “meltdown.”

“Say what you want. I’m not spoiled or entitled or crazy. I can just be a little expressive and vocal shall we say,” she said in the caption to a Photoshopped image of her by the bench in a scene from Forrest Gump. “I was mad because there are literally hundreds of references to his collections of movies and thought Forrest Gump could have been a clue down the road … I know it’s not a good look, but I really wanted to play along with the rest of the cast.”
