'The White Lotus' Star Reveals 'Iconic' Jennifer Coolidge Scene That Was Cut
THE WHITE LOTUS star Haley Lu Richardson has revealed that an “iconic” scene with Jennifer Coolidge was cut from the final edit.
The actress appeared as Portia in the second season of the anthology series, playing the personal assistant of Coolidge’s Tanya McQuoid.
Speaking to E! News at the Screen Actors Guild Awards on February 26, Richardson revealed that her favorite moment shooting the scene was an improvised moment from her co-star, where the character speculates as to the whereabouts of her husband (Jon Gries).
“My favorite moment with her was part of this scene that didn’t make it into the show,” she began. “It was iconic and it was so cool. I got to see something iconic that she did that no one else will get to see.
“She’s like ‘Do you think Greg is cheating on me?’. She went off on this tangent that wasn’t in the script where she was like, ‘Do you? Do you?’,” Richardson recalled. “Looking around at everyone at breakfast screaming ‘Do you?’. The rest of the time we were filming we were all just saying ‘Do you?!'”
In the ceremony, Coolidge won the award for Best Supporting Actress, whilst the show as a whole took home the award for Best Drama Ensemble.
The anthology series, which premiered in 2021 with a season set in Hawaii, has received wide acclaim so far, and a third season is currently in development.
“There's no place I'd rather work than HBO and there's no people I'd rather partner with than Casey Bloys, Francesca Orsi, Nora Skinner and their incredible team,” said creator Mike White when the show was renewed. “I feel so lucky to get this opportunity again and am excited to reunite with my amazingly talented collaborators on The White Lotus.”
Whilst the location of third season is yet to be officially confirmed, Jackass star Johnny Knoxville inadvertently revealed that he had met White in Tokyo, leading several fans to speculate that the new installment will take place there.
