'The White Lotus' Season 3 Is Taking Place in Thailand and We Think We Know Exactly Where

The White Lotus is headed to Asia! The award-winning HBO series—which was officially renewed for a third season in November 2022—is planning to set its upcoming installment in Thailand, according to a report by Variety.

Series creator, writer, and director Mike White has been scouting locations in the country, sources tell the outlet. While HBO declined to comment, the news lines up with White’s hints about a third season in Asia. “The first season kind of highlighted money, and then the second season is sex,” White said in a video following the season two finale. “I think the third season would be maybe a satirical and funny look at death and Eastern religion and spirituality. It feels like it could be a rich tapestry to do another round at White Lotus.”

The first two seasons featured stints in Hawaii and Italy at Four Seasons resorts, so it’s likely season three will tap another one of the company’s luxury destinations. In Thailand, there are four resorts located in Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Koh Samui, and Golden Triangle. Each one offers a different atmosphere to consider—a bustling city, a wellness sanctuary, a beachside retreat, and a magical tented camp.

If White leans into a spirituality-centered storyline, our bets are on the Four Seasons Resort Chiang Mai. The company pegs it as “a sanctuary of well-being, perfect for unwinding, recharging, and finding your fulfillment with individually-tailored experiences.” However, if the plot is heavily tied to nature, the Four Seasons Tented Camp Golden Triangle—where guests can interact with elephants and explore mountain trails and bamboo jungles while staying in luxury tents—is a more likely filming location choice.
