Whistler Skiers Complaining About Brutal Powder Day Lift Lines

Whistler Blackcomb in Canada had a rough start to the season, waiting for Mother Nature to deliver.

But when the snow came down, it delivered, and people wasted no time jetting up to the resort.

On December 20th, there was so little snow the ground was brown with dirt. But by January 6th, Whistler received over 25 inches (sorry, had to convert the metric system for our fellow Americans) and the base turned to packed powder, with lines of people to reflect it.

One man on the way to the resort, Graeme McRanor, posted footage of hordes of people crowding the sidewalk, skis and snowboards in hand, also on their way to the mountain.

Graeme quite simply stated: "that's a no from me, dog."

Another Twitter user (and Canadian skier) commented that even a "5:55 departure from Squamish was still insufficient to make it for fresh tracks. However, we were near the front for general opening. Lines, during the day were brutal."

One video showing the lines in question is actually laughable: people standing still for what looks like a mile, due to the fresh powder and it being a weekend.

Why can't Mother Nature wait til Monday to dump?

Many people are wondering if weekdays are now the only way to go.

Others, still, shake their heads and buy skins, hoping a few pow turns will make things right next time.

And it wasn't even the line for Spanky's Ladder.

Now, for the real philosophical dilemma: small resorts with less crowds (and less terrain) or bigger resorts with more extreme skiing, but lift lines as far as the eye can see?

And I thought the 10 minute wait time on Sunday for the Funitel at Palisades Tahoe was bad.
