WhistlePig Just Brought Back Its Limited Edition PiggyBank Rye

Last year, WhistlePig launched PiggyBank Rye, a pig-shaped decanter full of rye whiskey that pours from the bottle’s derriere. PiggyBank has returned just in time for the holiday season, the perfect gift for your porcine and whiskey-loving friends and family.

The whiskey inside is an amped up version of WhistlePig 10, bottled at 110 proof instead of the original’s 100 proof. Like the ten-year-old, the whiskey is made from a 100 percent rye mashbill and sourced from Alberta Distillers Limited, the distillery owned by Beam Suntory that makes rye for other brands as well as its own Alberta Premium label. Last year’s release coincided with an auction of four rare WhistlePig rye whiskeys in original Berkshire Bitter Pig decanters from the 19th century that raised $125,000 for charity. Throughout 2023, WhistlePig continued that spirit of giving by supporting organizations focused on solar energy, food education, and bartender training.

“We’re thrilled to reintroduce this Berkshire Bitter pig inspired collectible in time for the holidays,” said WhistlePig head blender Meghan Ireland in a statement, before offering some of her own tasting notes. “Outside of the ‘ham-some’ decanter, this 110-proof expression of WhistlePig 10 delivers a unique experience of our original rye that highlights bright and vibrant notes of mint and dill, with light truffle notes on the palette. Our classic long and spicy finish with rich oak tannin rounds out the sipping experience. It’s our favorite whiskey for a holiday toast, especially for giving thanks and giving back.”

WhistlePig has been on a roll over the past year, releasing new expressions like the wind tunnel-trialed Alfa Romeo Team Stake Single Barrel, the Pit Viper collab SummerStock, a 21-year-old single malt whiskey, and the latest edition of Boss Hog which was finished in two casks, one that held frankincense and myrrh-infused spirit and an ex-mead barrel. All things considered, the whiskey in this piggybank is pretty standard, but the packaging is decidedly not. You can find the new PiggyBank Rye available to purchase now from local retailers, or directly at the WhistlePig website.
