Oppenheimer is an epic biographical thriller film that was released on July 11, 2023 at Le Grand Rex in Paris, France and on July 21, 2023 in the United States and United Kingdom. Running for 180 minutes and with a $100 million budget, the film was written, produced, and directed by Christopher Nolan. It is also based on the 2005 biography American Prometheus, written by Kai Bird and Martin J. Sherwin. Oppenheimer, the film, centers around J. Robert Oppenheimer, the American theoretical physicist known as the “father of the atomic bomb” because of his significant participation in the Manhattan Project during World War II. The Manhattan Project was a research and development program that sought to make nuclear weapons during the War. The film follows Oppenheimer’s personal life, studies, time teaching at the University of California, Berkeley and the California Institute of Technology, direction at the Los Alamos Laboratory during World War II, and experience in the 1954 security hearing.
