Where are the Oscars being held? The venue is fit for Hollywood royalty
The invitations have gone out. Women in Hollywood are finalizing their red carpet looks. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences is desperately hoping to avoid a fiasco along the lines of 2017’s La La Land and Moonlight mix-up. We know who’s hosting (Jimmy Kimmel) and we also know the full list of nominees. There’s just one question left: Where are the Oscars happening?
There are several locations that count themselves among the list of venues where the Oscars have been held. For example, the very first Academy Awards took place at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel in 1929. The ceremony wasn’t broadcast, of course, and lasted just 15 minutes, according to Forbes. Compare that to 2017, when nearly 33 million people tuned into the event. Things have certainly changed, haven’t they?
After 1929, the Oscars ceremony bounced from location to location for a number of years. Venues included the Ambassador Hotel, Grauman’s Chinese Theatre, the Shrine Auditorium, and the Los Angeles County Music Center, among others. Another fun fact? The awards first aired on TV in 1953, and were actually held simultaneously in both Los Angeles and New York for a few years in the 1950s.
The 2018 Oscars, however, will air live from the same venue where the ceremony has been held since 2002: the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood.

The 180,000-square-foot, 3,400-seat Dolby Theatre has hosted some of the world’s most prestigious artists and events, including the AFI Lifetime Achievement Awards, the Daytime Emmys, and performances by the likes of Celine Dion, Prince, and Stevie Wonder.
The Dolby Theatre is actually considered “the permanent home of the Oscars,” according to Impressive Magazine.

As such, the theater rightfully features an Oscars exhibit with a collection of photos of past Academy Award winners. It’s apparently a “must see for any tourist arriving in Hollywood,” Impressive Magazine wrote.
We don’t know about you, but that exhibit is going on our bucket list ASAP. After all, when someone asks, “Where are the Oscars happening?” it would be cool AF to be able to say we’ve been there.
