Ryan Murphy has another hit on his hands thanks to his brand new series, Ratched, which has been dominating on Netflix. Sarah Paulson returns to the Ryan Murphy television universe once again as the infamous Nurse Ratched and shows how she became who she is in One Who Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest. If you've already seen the show, then you might be obsessed with the place where the show had taken place.

Here's everything you need to know about where Netflix's Ratched was filmed.

Where does Ratched take place?

The series mostly focuses on the Lucia State Hospital in Monterey County, California, which is known for its treatment in mental health. However, despite the fact that it's well-known by its characters, the actual hospital does not actually exist.

Why does it take part in Lucia?

According to star and executive producer, Sarah Paulson, the location was chosen thanks to all the visual cues that the area gives with its cliffs.

"I know that that location was exceedingly important to Ryan [Murphy], probably for what it evokes. The visuals and the cliff sides and how quickly you can fall off the edge of a cliff, all of that visual metaphor and things that can be evoked from that place," Sarah Paulson told reporters at the CTAM Tour 2020. "I'm not sure beyond that visual component that Ryan really, really wanted. I know that it was important to him for the look of the show and all of the drama that sort of is inherently communicated through those images when you see it [set in] Big Sur."

Where was the show filmed?

According to Variety, Ratched was filmed all throughout California. While the Lucia State Hospital all seems like one location, it's actually three various shooting places cut together to make up the whole thing. However, the majority of the series is filmed at King Gillette Ranch in Calabasas, which is also used for The Biggest Loser.
