Where is Miley Altman from Netflix's Murdaugh Murders: A Southern Scandal Now?
Netflix's newest true crime docuseries Murdaugh Murders: A Southern Scandal follows 54-year-old Alex Murdaugh who is being tried for the murders of his son Paul and wife Maggie. The unraveling of Alex's life began with a boating accident that tragically killed 19-year-old Mallory Beach. Paul Murdaugh, Alex Murdaugh's son, was the one driving the boat.
On February 24, 2019, Paul Murdaugh and his friends were out traveling on his boat. There was underage drinking involved, and the boat ended up crashing into a bridge. All survived the accident except one — Mallory Beach. She was missing for more than a week before her body was recovered. Miley Altman, Mallory's best friend, was one of the five other teens on board with Mallory during the deadly crash.
Mallory and Miley met in preschool and formed a bond that would last for the rest of Mallory's life.
"She came up to me and told me I was pretty; the rest is history," Miley said in the series. "I was just this little shy girl. She was this little fireball, talking nonstop."
When the pair was in their teenage years, they met Morgan Doughty, who was also on the boat that fateful day. The trio instantly became inseparable. The three girls even got jobs working together.
At the time of the accident, Miley was dating Anthony Cook, Mallory was dating Anthony's cousin Connor Cook, and Morgan was dating Paul, who she'd been with for four years. In the docuseries, Miley recounts that she didn't like Paul at all because he was physically and emotionally abusive to Morgan when he drank, and there was even an incident on the boat that day.
"She would come to work and, you know, you could tell she'd been crying or something. Me and Mallory would just be like, 'this isn't normal. We're both in relationships, and neither of us are going through this. We don't think you need to be with him," Miley said to the cameras.
On that night in February, after too much drinking, the group of friends tried to talk Paul out of driving the boat, but he insisted and was driving carelessly and without paying attention.
"Paul would just leave the wheel unattended. Connor would have to grab it," Miley said. "I literally stood up and yelled at him, 'if you're not gonna let anybody else drive, you could at least take us home!'" After this an argument ensued, causing Paul to crash the boat at around 2 a.m. He, Connor, and Mallory were thrown overboard, but Mallory sadly didn't survive. Her remains were found eight days later.
"I think Mallory was just too good for this earth," Miley said in Murdaugh Murders. "I mean, I think about her every day, and it's hard to move on without her."

Miley was taken to the hospital after the crash, but thankfully she didn't sustain any major injuries.

Miley seems to live a pretty private life now, with her Instagram (@mileyaltman) set to private. In her bio is a link to Malz Palz, a charity for rescue animals started in memory and honor of Mallory, who always wanted to build an animal shelter in her hometown of Hampton County, South Carolina.
Miley and Morgan remain friends. Morgan shared a pic to her social media of a tattoo of the letter 'M' on her arm for Mallory, and it's reported that Miley got a tattoo as well.
