Where is Lori Vallow now?

In 2018, Lori Vallow, a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, met Chad Daybell. According to Newsweek, the two were introduced by a mutual friend at a Preparing a People event, and that's when he began to seep his ideologies into her mind.

Around the time of the initial meeting, Lori, a mother of three, was near the end of her fourth marriage with Charles Vallow, who claimed she'd threaten to murder him if he tried to interfere with her "preparations for Christ's second coming." He'd even filed an order of protection against his ex-wife and attempted to bring her in for evaluation, but to no avail, Newsweek further reports.

Vallow died at 62 years old in 2019 allegedly at the hand of Lori's brother, Alex Cox, who argued self-defense at the time. Cox had died later that year. Then, authorities seemed to suspect Lori's involvement in his death.

In September 2019, things grew more suspicious when Lori's 7-year-old son, J.J. Vallow, and his older sister, 16-year-old Tylee Ryan, were not accounted for. In February 2020, Lori—who relocated from Idaho to Hawaii—was charged with two felony counts of desertion and nonsupport of her dependent children.

The story took a tragic turn in June 2020 when the bodies of J.J. and Tylee were discovered in shallow graves in Daybell's Idaho backyard. Allegedly, Lori and Chad believed that they needed to kill these innocent children to get rid of their dark spirits.

On May 25, 2021, Lori and Chad were charged with the first-degree murder of Tylee Ryan and J.J. Vallow. Additionally, she was charged with conspiracy to commit first-degree murder, though her charges of desertion and nonsupport of dependent children, in addition to other counts, were dropped.

Lori is currently in jail waiting to stand trial and has been deemed fit to do so in 2022 after a brief stint in a mental health facility. In 2021, she was considered incompetent and unable to stand trial.

In the docu-series trailer, we hear Lori's son Colby ask: "Are you sorry for me? Or are you sorry for my siblings?"

According to the recordings from the film, Lori replies: "Well, I’m sorry that you don’t really fully understand the situation."

What's next for Lori Vallow?

After several delays, Lori's trial is set to begin on January 9, 2023. Procedural hearings took place in August 2022, and she refused to enter a plea on the murder charges, per Newsweek.

Sins of Our Mother is a three-part docu-series streaming on Netflix beginning September 14.
