Who is Lori Vallow Daybell?

Lori Vallow Daybell was born Lori Norene Cox, but has been married five times. As such, her name has changed several times; she has gone by Lori Norene Lagioia, Lori Ryan Daybell, and others. She was raised a devout Catholic.

Lori had three children. She and her second husband, William Lagioia, welcomed son Colby in 1996 and divorced in 1998. Three years later, she married Joseph Anthony Ryan, Jr., who legally adopted Colby; their daughter Tylee was born in 2002. Vallow Daybell and Ryan separated in 2004 and divorced in 2005.

In 2006, Lori married Leland Anthony "Charles" Vallow and converted to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (LDS) for him. Charles had two sons from a previous marriage, and he and Lori adopted his grandnephew, Joshua Jaxon "J.J." Vallow, in 2013.

In 2015, Lori first read a book by doomsday prepper and preacher Chad Guy Daybell, and she met him four years later. In 2019, Charles Vallow filed for divorce from Lori and accused her of draining their bank accounts, selling his truck without permission, and threatening his life for his attempts to interfere with her doomsday preparation; Lori reportedly believed Christ's second coming would occur in July 2020. Charles filed a protective order against Lori.

In July 2019, Lori's brother, Alex Cox, shot and killed Charles Vallow. Cox said he acted in self-defense and was never charged in relation to Charles' death; Alex died from a blood clot in December 2019. Charles Vallow's death would ultimately be ruled a homicide.

According to local news reports, in the same month that Charles Vallow was killed, Lori secretly began a new relationship with Chad Daybell.

Daybell's friend April Raymond said that Lori became obsessed with Chad and his books. Lori and her brother Alex Cox went on recruiting missions to gather followers for Chad and his teachings.

Who was Tammy Daybell?

When he and Lori first met, Chad Daybell was married to Tammy, his wife of 19 years and co-founder and CFO of their Spring Creek Book Company.

What did Lori Vallow Daybell do?

On Sept. 8, 2019, Lori Vallow Daybell, Alex Cox, Tylee Ryan and J.J. Vallow visited Yellowstone National Park. It was the last time Tylee Ryan, 16, would ever be seen alive.

According to reports, just one day later, Chad told Tammy Daybell that Cox shot a raccoon on their property and buried it in their backyard.

On Sept. 23, 2019, Chad Daybell un-enrolled J.J. Vallow, then 7, from his Rexburg, Idaho, elementary school, saying he would homeschool the child. It was the last day J.J. was seen alive.

On Oct. 19, 2019, Tammy Daybell died. No autopsy was performed at the time, and it was believed she suffered cardiac arrest in her sleep. When her body was later exhumed, her death was ruled a homicide.

Lori and Chad Daybell tied the knot in Hawaii on Nov. 5, 2019, just weeks after Tammy's passing. Kay Woodcock, Lori's former mother-in-law and J.J. Vallow's grandmother, alerted police that she hadn't seen or heard from J.J. in months, leading authorities to perform a welfare check on the boy. Lori told authorities that J.J. was staying with her friend Melanie Gibb, who denied the claim. J.J. and Tylee were officially declared missing that December, with Lori and Chad Daybell considered persons of interest in the children's disappearance.

In January 2020, authorities obtained search warrants on Lori and Chad's properties and told Lori she had five days to return her children to Rexburg, Idaho. She missed the deadline and was arrested in February 2020 and denied bail. That April, it was announced that she and Chad were officially being investigated for murdering the children; their remains were discovered in the Daybells' backyard in June 2020. Chad was arrested on June 10, 2020, and charged with tampering with evidence.

Lori and Chad Daybell were each charged with first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit murder in the deaths of Joshua "JJ" Vallow and Tylee Ryan. Vallow Daybell was also charged with conspiracy to commit murder in connection with her ex-husband Charles Vallow's death; Chad Guy Daybell was additionally charged with first-degree murder of his ex-wife, Tammy Daybell. They will be tried in 2023.

What was Lori Vallow's End of Days belief?

Lori Vallow Daybell believed that Christ's second coming would be in July 2020. Her friend April Raymond told ABC News' 20/20, "They were actively preparing for the end that [she believed] was inevitably coming very soon—storing food, water, medical supplies, all the things that you would need if you weren't able to access them for whatever reason." Raymond said that Vallow Daybell believed she was one of 144,000 people who would survive the end of days.

Vallow Daybell's former father-in-law, Larry Woodcock, said she and Chad Guy Daybell "liked their own Kool-Aid." She reportedly also claimed that her children were "zombies" possessed by evil spirits, and that by killing them, she would free their souls. She reportedly told friends that she believed her ex-husband Charles Vallow was also a zombie.

Other fringe beliefs she held included that she was a "goddess" destined to usher in the second coming of Jesus Christ and that she could teleport to and from Hawaii.
