We all know the Duggars. The family quickly became a household name after their hit reality show 19 Kids and Counting aired on TLC in 2008. From our TV screens, the Duggars seemed like the picture-perfect family. Somehow even with 19 children, Michelle and Jim Bob Duggar had their lives completely together and raised sweet, polite, and charming kids.

But Shiny Happy People: Duggar Family Secrets, the new limited docuseries on Prime Video, shows that not everything is what it was made out to be. For the first time, the second eldest Duggar sibling, Jill Duggar Dillard spoke out about her time on 19 Kids and Counting, her experience with the Institute in Basic Life Principles (or the IBLP, the controversial religious organization founded by Bill Gothard that the Duggar family was a part of), and the oldest Duggar sibling, Josh.

If you've been keeping up with the Shiny Happy People docuseries, you've probably been wondering what happened to Josh, and where he is now. Here is everything we know about Josh Duggar and his current whereabouts.

Josh Duggar is the oldest of 19 siblings, as seen on the reality show 19 Kids and Counting. He was born in Arkansas on March 3, 1988. The Duggars were members of the Institute in Basic Life Principles, or the IBLP, a controversial Christian organization founded by Bill Gothard that many argue is a cult. The IBLP enforces many strict rules and conservative morals. For example, members of the IBLP aren't allowed to watch TV or movies, unless it's approved by or produced by the IBLP itself. It is encouraged for parents to hit their children as punishment. Members of the organization must dress modestly, with the women and girls wearing ankle-length dresses and keeping their hair long, and women are taught from childhood to 'be fruitful and multiply' and have as many children as their bodies allow.

On the outside, families of the IBLP seem extremely wholesome, but the documentary exposes the fact that hidden beneath the surface of IBLP is a long history of abuse and sexual assault.

In 2015, Josh Duggar was accused of sexually assaulting several underage girls when he was 14 and 15, including four of his younger sisters. Later that same year, Josh was caught on a dating site meant for married users seeking an affair. In August of 2015, Josh checked into a faith-based rehab facility for six months.

Then, in April 2021 Josh was arrested for receiving and possessing child pornography.

Shiny Happy People say this is just "the tip of the iceberg" for the IBLP, Bill Gothard, and the members of the organization.

Josh Duggar was found guilty of receiving and possessing child pornography and was sentenced to 12 and 1/2 years in prison, however, his sentence was extended by two months, according to New York Post.

Josh is currently in the Federal Correctional Institute in Texas. He is reportedly in solitary confinement after being caught with a cell phone in February.

As of now, Josh's release date is October 2, 2032. Once Josh is released, he will remain under the supervision of a parole officer for 20 years, and he will be prohibited from unsupervised contact with minors, including any of the seven children he has with his wife of 15 years, Anna.
