‘Where healthy meets the soul’: Topeka restaurant opens new location

TOPEKA (KSNT) — A Topeka restaurant reopened its doors at its new permanent location.

Sylvia Hopper first opened SHopper’s Kitchen during the pandemic in 2020. She says it “all started with a cheesecake”, when she posted a picture of her creation on social media. It blew up from there, and the idea for her restaurant was born.

“I love to cook and serve people. That is my heart, that is what I really like to do. And I try to make sure that I’m hiring really good servers so that when you come here maybe your day is not going so well, my servers are going to make you feel like you’re the best person there is in the world!”

Sylvia Hopper, ‘SHopper’s Kitchen’ Owner

The restaurant closed temporarily to move and renovate its new location at Southeast 29th Street. The new spot has a full kitchen, which Hopper says allowed her to expand the menu.

Hopper says the restaurant has always featured vegan and vegetarian bowls on the healthier side, but now includes traditional soul foods like catfish, chicken, and collard greens. Hopper says almost everything is made from scratch.

“My slogan is ‘where healthy meets the soul,'” Hopper said.

The restaurant is open 11 a.m. – 4 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. Hopper says the restaurant will soon have earlier hours with breakfast options.

Catering orders, event space reservations, and more can be found on their website.
