Where Is George Stephanopoulos? The Real Reason He Hasn't Been on 'Good Morning America'

As the primary anchors of Good Morning America, it's a rarity to not see Michael Strahan, Robin Roberts and George Stephanopoulos gracing our screens every weekday morning on ABC. However, just like any profession, there are occasions when one of the trio needs to take a temporary break from being on the air. During such instances, their absence understandably raises concerns among viewers about their well-being.

That was the case on December 18, when viewers saw GMA Weekends host Whit Johnson sitting alongside Robin and Michael, with George nowhere to be found. Because he is a GMA staple, fans took to social media to express their worry over George being MIA.

But it turns out he has a very sweet reason for not being on the air — and it has to do with his family.

Where is George Stephanopoulos on Good Morning America?

While ABC hasn't explicitly addressed his absence, a report from Hello! magazine indicates that George is simply taking some much-deserved time off to be with his loved ones ahead of the holidays.

Although George hasn't personally given any clues to his whereabouts, his wife, actress Ali Wentworth, recently went on Instagram to offer a peek into the family's holiday preparations. Posting a sweet photo of the couple on Instagram on December 11, she shared that they're waiting for their daughters, Harper and Elliott, to return home from their respective colleges (Harper studies at Vanderbilt University, while Elliott is a student at Brown University).

"Getting ready for our college girls to come home for the holidays," she captioned the image. "Need to squeeze and kiss them!"

In the comments, fans couldn't help but share in Ali's excitement. "❤️ it will be great when girls come for Xmas plays dinners and loving fun," one person wrote on Instagram. "Oh that is the best feeling!!!! Enjoy!!!!! 👏," a different follower replied. "It’s the best feeling having them home. ❤️," another agreed.

What's more, during a December 12 appearance on Late Night With Seth Meyers, George shared that the family of four were planning to take a quick trip as a way to mark his daughters' return from school.

"It's gonna be great!" he explained on the talk show. "We're going to actually take a little vacation, but we'll be home for a week first."

While we hope he has a great holiday vacation, we can't wait until George is back on the air... maybe he'll bring a few mementos from his family time along the way!
