Where to Buy a Serious Wide Brim Hat

By Megan Gustashaw.

The trick to wearing a serious wide-brim hat—and by "serious" we mean the kind that's rendered in a rich or off-kilter color and finished with a not-messing-around brim—is to not be too precious about how you style it. It's also important to put it on your head and sort of forget about it for the rest of the day. In other words, own it and you'll nail it.

The first step in building the confidence to be "that guy" is to buy a hat that's made with integrity. Ideally it'd be custom fitted to your head but if not, it should at least be made by hand. To get you started here are a few hat makers whose craftsmanship and taste we trust. In terms of style, it never hurts to keep things classic with a ribbon-tied or perfectly plain blocked fedora. We also like a hat that walks the line between winter and summer in mood, and looks like it's been bouncing around a tour bus all summer.
