Nothing says fall like diving into your favorite fantasy series on a chilly October night.

Well, you can get excited—The Wheel of Time season 2 has officially dropped seven (!!) full episodes, and the final episode, which hits the streamer on Thursday, is definitely primed to pack on the intensity. With only one more episode left, it feels like there's still *so* much to wrap up before the season ends.

There has been a lot to unpack so far, and there's even more to come when episode 8 drops this week (what will be the aftermath of Basan's tragic end? Will Egwene break free? Do they defeat Lanfear and the others?). Amazon drops each episode at midnight in Greenwich Mean Time (GMT), which means you can actually watch each episode the evening before its official release date in the US.

But let's back up for a second. In case you need a refresher, here's a primer on the series itself: The Wheel of Time, which is based on a fantasy book series by Robert Jordan, tells the story of villagers in a fantasy world where time is more than just an abstract concept.

A powerful, magical woman, Moiraine Sedai (Rosamund Pike), arrives to inform five of the villagers that they may be the "Dragon," a special child from a prophecy who has the power to shift the balance between Dark and Light in their world.

Season 2 starts out with Moiraine Sedai having lost her connection to the One Power, Rand running away after telling everyone he's dead, and Padan Fain stealing the Horn of Valere.

The second season brings fans back to where it all began, for, perhaps, one last battle. Here's what to know about the brand new season, from release date to the cast.

How many episodes of Wheel of Time are there?

The newest season of Wheel of Time will have eight episodes in total. This is the same number of episodes as season 1, which is a good sign for the show's continuity! So far, each episode has been a little over an hour long.

On September 1, the first three episodes dropped, and a new one has hit the streamer each Friday since then. The eighth episode is being released on October 6 (but will hit the streamer on the 5th in the USA).

When do new episodes of Wheel of Time come out?

I'm glad you asked. Unfortunately, Amazon Prime is known to draw out a season’s episode release dates—and the upcoming Wheel of Time season will be no different.

However, it does look like the upcoming fantasy series episodes will drop at a quicker pace than other shows on the platform. Here's a rundown of when to expect each installment, according to Amazon:

  • Friday, September 1: Episodes 1-3 "A Taste of Solitude," "Strangers and Friends," and "What Might Be" Watch Now

  • Friday, September 8: Episode 4 "Daughters of the Night" Watch Now

  • Friday, September 15: Episode 5 "Damane" Watch Now

  • Friday, September 22: Episode 6 "Eyes Without Pity" Watch Now

  • Friday, September 29: Episode 7 "Daes Dae'Mar" Watch Now

  • Friday, October 6: Episode 8 FINALE

How often does Wheel of Time come out?

If you're looking at episodes, each one has come out about a week apart. This is the first Wheel of Time season since Fall 2021. So far, each season has been about two years apart.

What time will new episodes of Wheel of Time be streaming on Amazon?

It depends on where you live. If each episode is dropped on its release date at 12 a.m. GMT, viewers in the United States will be able to watch each episode the day before it releases (technically...it's time zone magic!) Midnight Greenwich Mean Time transfers to 8 p.m. ET, and 5 p.m. PT.

If you're still a little confused, I don't blame you. Visit the Wheel of Time page on Prime Video. It will tell you exactly what time to expect an episode drop.

Who will be in this season?

The Wheel of Time crew has a few change ups this season, but all your faves have returned. Here's a rundown of the season 2 cast, per IMDb:

  • Moiraine—Rosamund Pike

  • Siuan Sanche—Sophie Okonedo

  • al'Lan Mandragoran—Daniel Henney

  • Mat Cauthon—Dónal Finn (he will replace Barney Harris)

  • Egwene Al'Vere—Madeleine Madden

  • Nynaeve al'Meara—Zoe Robbins

  • Rand al'Thor—Josha Stradowski

  • Perrin Aybara—Marcus Rutherford

Why did Barney Harris leave the show?

Barney Harris (who plays Mat) was recast shortly after production halted in 2021 due to COVID. It's unclear why he was recast, but Dónal Finn stepped up in his place.

"I knew that if I allowed myself some time to stop and think about [replacing a character], I could get very overwhelmed," Dónal told TVLine in June. "But ultimately, knowing how much the fans love this character motivated me to make sure that I was starting it in the right place."

Will there be a Season 3 of Wheel of Time?

Yes!

Last July, Amazon confirmed Wheel of Time would have a third season, per DEADLINE. And it could be coming sooner than anticipated. Some fans have speculated that production already started on the upcoming season in April.

It's unclear if production was able to finish shooting before the SAG-AFTRA strike began in July 2023, but I'd imagine it'll be a while before the newest season hits Prime Video.

It's also a little early to be speculating, considering season 2 is still ongoing! You can stream the latest episodes on Prime Video.

Prepare the popcorn. The Dark One is coming.
