Only a week after presenting its Resort 2024 collection, Christopher Kane appears to be shutting down.

According to WWD, the parent company for the London-based brand, Christopher Kane Ltd., is seeking to appoint administrators from FTS Recovery to "wind down operations."

"This difficult decision has been reached to give the company sufficient time to implement a rescue plan," company principals said in a statement to the publication. In an effort to mitigate the effects of this decision, Christopher Kane Ltd. is looking to locate "interested parties to either refinance the company's existing debt or alternatively locate a purchaser for the business and asset."

Christopher Kane, a Central Saint Martins graduate, founded his self-named label in 2006 with his sister, Tammy, and quickly rose to fame amongst the fashion crowd, particularly the A-Listers of the world. (Fans span from Kate Middleton, Michelle Obama and Anna Wintour herself.)

In 2013, Kering purchased 51% of the Christoper Kane brand, only to sell it back to the designer and his sister in 2018. Shortly thereafter, Kane launched More Joy, a second line of basics like T-shirts, beanies and beach blankets, with the slogan "More Joy" plastered across them.

At the height of the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020, the company closed its London store and laid off a significant portion of staff. Kane's More Joy brand had helped keep the business afloat, with sales from the spin-off collection quadrupling that year, making up over half of the purchases on the christopherkane.com site.
