What's Your Fancy?: Avi Brosh Shares His Travel Essentials
“I notice the little things that most people don’t,” Avi Brosh says. “Designing a space is about paying attention to those little things; maybe one doesn’t move the needle but compiled together they create an overture about how you want to live your life.”
This focus on the little things is apparent in Brosh’s personal life, but also in his work. Take, for example, the newly opened Palihouse West Hollywood. The hotel (the brand’s return to the L.A. neighborhood 15 years after it first opened there) is a charming, perfectly put together spot full of delightful flourishes and luxuries large and small. “We really have a specific playbook: we do neighborhood style hotels,” Brosh says. “L.A. is made up of all these micro neighborhoods, and I’d rather have six 30-room hotels in six different neighborhoods with their own point of view and vibe. We can be more of an inn, with locals at the restaurant and a feeling of real connection.”
That feeling will expand later this year when Le Petit Pali, a bed-and-breakfast style guest house, opens in Carmel, California as the latest addition to his portfolio, which also includes properties in Seattle, Santa Barbara, and San Francisco, as well as six in Los Angeles. “I’m always thinking about the next thing that’ll pique my interest,” Brosh says. “That can mean expanding the ideas we have, this new concept is taking the B&B idea and making it incredibly chic, layered, and unexpected. We’re modeling it with me as the customer and trying to bring in those little details.”
Here, Brosh shares his musts for making the most of a life on the move.

1) The Frame Carry-On Max: Aluminum Edition
arloskye.com
"I travel often, both for business and pleasure, so quality, stylish luggage is essential. I only carry-on, never check a bag, whether I am away for two days or 10. I’m a big fan of the Arlo Skye Aluminum Edition, founded by Louis Vuitton and Tumi alums. The materials are high quality and incredibly durable and I very much appreciate the anti-microbial lining and minimal style."

"A well-travelled passport cover can tell a story or two. My wife and I have different colors of the Goyard Passport Cover, so they are easily told apart and we also use them to collect little mementos and paper notes during overseas travel."
