What’s In My Gym Bag: CrossFit Star Christmas Abbott

We’re taking a peek inside our favorite health and fitness experts’ gym bags to uncover their must-have gear and favorite products.

Name: Christmas Abbott, author of the national bestseller The Badass Body Diet, CrossFit and weightlifting athlete, and owner of CrossFit Invoke

My workout: My favorite workouts are heavy and fast! I enjoy anything dynamic, especially with a team. I’ll typically do several workouts in one session at my gym, CrossFit Invoke in Raleigh, North Carolina. For example, I love to start my session with some Olympic weightlifting with medium weight. Then I get heavy with it and do a strength workout. Afterward, I will do a metabolic conditioning workout that will last about 12 to 20 minutes, but it’s all in the lungs! Finally I’ll finish up with a “buyout,” such as doing muscle ups or working on a skill or the core. I love lifting weights and pushing myself past what I think I am capable of!

What’s in my gym bag:

  1. The Badass Body Diet: I’m really proud of this book, so I carry it with me to remind me that I still have so much more to give the world. Never settle!

  2. CrossFit Invoke shorts: These are so very comfortable, and I love the color combo. They aren’t too tight, have a built-in liner, and of course they show the name of my gym!

  3. CrossFit Invoke shirt: This shirt is my favorite! It’s so soft and lightweight. The universal color tones balance my always-outrageous other clothing pieces.

  4. Rehband knee sleeves: I use these in my lifting to help keep my knees warm and to give them more support. They’re like a sweet bear hug to your joints. I sometimes use them in my metcon (metabolic conditioning) workouts, especially for burpees so I don’t scrape myself up!

  5. FitAid recovery drink: This beverage is delicious and packed full of great vitamins and amino acids that help my recovery process.

  6. Nutriforce Balanced Hydration: I live in North Carolina, so it’s hot, hot, hot all the time, from spring to fall. With working out and living in a humid, hot place, it’s important to stay hydrated. Hydration plays a key role in performance! A small scoop of this keeps me on track. 7. Reebok Lifter Plus 2.0: These are an old favorite. I love the double strap so I can really get stability from my shoe. With Olympic weightlifting, it’s imperative to have a shoe that allows you to generate a lot of power.

  8. Reebok Sprint: These are my go-tos for any sort of metcon workout, especially if it has running in it. The low-profile heel lets me still have power in my lifts and be dynamic with jumping or running.

  9. Flipbelt: This little belt is so fun! I can run around my favorite places in downtown Raleigh and carry my keys, cards, and anything else with me so I that can stop and see friends or have lunch afterward. No carrying my phone in my bra anymore!
