Site of Westwood thrift shop that closed after 63 years gets new life with a new tenant

A new medical clinic with a focus on wellness, women’s health and cardiology services has opened in Westwood, occupying the space of a former borough institution that shut down during the COVID pandemic.

All Health Medical celebrated its grand opening last week at 245 Old Hook Road. Although the building has multiple businesses, Mayor Raymond Arroyo confirmed that the clinic has taken over the space vacated by Our Thrift Shop before it closed in 2020 after 63 years in business.

The store began life as an effort to help raise money for the old Pascack Valley Hospital. After the hospital closed for several years starting in 2007, the shop was reopened to benefit the nonprofit Art School at Old Church in Demarest.

But pandemic lockdowns and health requirements proved too much for the Old Thrift Shop and its volunteer staff, many of whom were senior citizens.

All Health Medical started three years ago under the direction of Dr. Suhel Ahmad, its CEO. It now has eight locations throughout Bergen and Passaic counties, including the new Westwood branch. The network offers primary care, weight loss, cardiology, OB-GYN, aesthetics and neurology services, according to its website.

Carly Rock, director of the Westwood location, said the clinic has a “really big weight loss following.” Many of the patients who use its various services are menopausal or pre-menopausal, Rock said.

The Westwood branch will offer “aesthetic and wellness” as well as weight loss treatments. Services will include laser hair removal, menopause management, dietitian counseling and microneedling to treat skin problems. Teachers and health care workers can get a 10% discount, said Rock.

“They need to get themselves loved, too, so we’re trying to help them with that,” Rock said.

In the beginning of July, All Health Medical plans to open another office across the parking lot, which will feature primary care, cardiologist and OB-GYN services, Rock said.
